R&M Announces New Employees
&M Consultants, Inc. recently announced two new hires. Greg Shearer joined the company as group manager of construction administration. Shearer manages and oversees administration of federal and state funded construction contracts, including day-to-day construction operations. He has fifteen years of experience in the engineering design and construction industry. Shearer has supervised a variety of construction projects ranging from $1 million to $50 million, including roads, airports, bridges, and emergency repairs caused by natural disasters.
Cody Gibson, a land surveyor, also joined the team. Gibson has eleven years of remote sensing, hydrographic, and land surveying experience. He specializes in field-to-finish efforts for LiDAR, or light detection and ranging; unmanned aerial systems, or UAS; surveys; bathymetric mapping; offshore navigation; and positioning, as well as geophysical and geotechnical surveying. Gibson will conduct hydrographic surveys in support of nearshore and freshwater projects and collect and process LiDAR and photogrammetric data via a UAS to aid R&M’s surveying capabilities

ssociated General Contractors, or AGC, recently announced that Robby Capps, president of F&W Construction, joined the association’s group of Life Governors at the March AGC Annual Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. Capps is a former AGC of Alaska president and recipient in 2012 of AGC’s most prestigious award, the Hard Hat. The distinction is given when an AGC member has served on the national board for twelve full years. Capps joins Jim Fergusson and Phil Anderson, also AGC of America Life Governors from Alaska. Fergusson and Anderson are also past AGC of Alaska presidents and Hard Hat alums.
ormer Davis Constructors & Engineers President Greg Romack was inducted into the Alaska Business Hall of Fame on January 19. Romack, along with four others, was honored for his direct impact toward furthering the success of Alaska business, demonstrating support and commitment to Junior Achievement Alaska’s programs, and for demonstrating commitment to Alaska business. Romack entered the Alaska business scene after college, driving into the 49th State with three friends and planning to fight fires. Instead, he and his friends purchased a car wash. He was later hired by Jeff Davis, founder of Davis Constructors, and found contracting was a good fit. “You make a bid, you get the work, you do the work, and you get paid for the work—it just fit really nicely for me,” Romack says in a recorded interview with Junior Achievement, shared as part of the Hall of Fame honors. Romack served as Associated General Contractors of Alaska president in 1996 and was chosen to join the ranks of AGC Hard Hats in 1999.
laska Auto Rental, based in Fairbanks, is scheduled to open a new year-round location in Valdez on April 3.
The new location will offer a selection of cars, SUVs, trucks, and vans for rent or lease in Valdez, as well as one-way rentals between Valdez and any other city in Alaska. Rentals at the Valdez location will be provided through an electronic self-serve checkout system, allowing users to place reservations by phone or online at AlaskaAutoRental.com.
General Manager Carl Thomas says the new location will provide important options for those visiting or doing business in Valdez.
“The team at Alaska Auto Rental is excited about this opportunity to support the community of Valdez by providing its residents, businesses, and visitors with additional transportation options within the local community and a new alternative to connect them to the rest of the state,” he says.
